Moodboards Refined

Throughout the week, the idea and concept of the website has been more refined to imagery that links directly to the website in some way.

The whole idea behind this mood board is to captivate our users using colour, shapes and interactive aspects. Since the last week mood board we had had a clearer direction of what we will show on our website.

Energy will be reflected through the map and the information it will give to the users and how they can interact with it.

The idea of it being memorable, interweaves with the idea of social media. Experiences become memorable when shared with one another. Social media is a major aspect of the LUX festival because it is a self advertising platform where people can share their experiences with others.

These 3 mood boards will now be merged into one mood board, refining it even more to set the complete mood of the site we want to portray.

Inspiration

Bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light".

We are quite interested in this technique and would like to use it somewhere in our website or at least incorporate an aspect of it. There definitely is a sense of depth whilst creating a 'captivating' essence of lights.

Yayoi Kusama

A Japanese artist and writer. She created the 'nothingness infinity room' or the 'fireflies on the water' installation. The images also have that bokeh effect and depth. The room is encased of mirrors creating that 'infinity' effect.

It is very captivating and definitely has that sense of energy we are looking for. Definitely if someone was to enter a room like this it would remain memorable. The whole concept of a light festival is intriguing.

This image is interesting in the way movement can be shown through light. It is definitely mesmerising.

Inspirations + Research

I collected some basic website as a helping tool (inspiration) to get us started on our own composition. I think we should try and avoid using lots of big strips as it could start appearing like banners, destroying hierarchy as a result. (Need to create a nice visual flow for easy navigation). We will also need to consider the demographics when constructing our website, making sure it appeals to everyone. I think it would be good if we played around with shapes, not restricting ourselves to rectangles. Fade in, fade out? Maybe incorporating some shapes from the Lux festival?

Plugins:

-Count down timer to give a "anticipating" feel.
-Interactive map for direction and seeing what's around.

Website vs Mobile App

Colour Exploration

Restricting our colour pallets so the website doesn't appear too chaotic. (3-4 would be ideal I think).

Decided to use the eyedropper tool to pick out prominent colours from photos. I tried to incorporate darker and lighter colours to form a contrast. I still need to keep in mind that we have to pick colours that allow text to be readable. It was said that white text on black background is harder to read than if reversed. So I decided to stray from using too much black as a base colour. Instead I went to choose something that is still relatively dark and still gives the essence of a night festival e.g. navy blue and dark purple.

Type and texture exploration

I have also had a look at the typography side of how some styles could be used. I will discuss these sources with our group and see what we think will work as a collaborative. This is just to start off on some concepts of the kind of 'mood' our type could have.

This other mood board is for the textures and patterns I think of when I imagine energy and the concept of illuminating. In regards to light and energy, you can start to see a sort of haptic movement and a sense of direction.

Allocated words: Illuminating and Energy/energetic

The dictionary definition of the word illuminating is light up; decorate with lights.
The first word that came to mind was illuminating because the light design/work gives the space around it a new depth of meaning and aura.

Since the project revolves around a light festival, I considered imagery leaning more towards that. There is also a sense of direction and movement created which could work well when working towards getting the viewer's eye to flow through our website.

It was interesting to notice that even the most little of things can have an impact of how we see our environment. Instead of looking for imagery that was in direct correlation with the LUX festival, I chose to expand on that into various areas that explored this word.

Energy:
the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity
• (energiesa person's physical and mental powers.power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines: nuclear energy.Physics the property of matter and radiation which is manifest as a capacity to perform work (such as causing motion or the interaction of molecules).

Energy or energetic was the other word that came to mind not only because the light work requires energy but also because there is a sense of energy within the crowd and environment. There is also a sense of spiritual energy regarding the innovation behind it.
I collected imagery regarding the different areas of energy and some abstract interpretations of it.

Mood board - Rebecca

Allocated words:
-Interactive

Dictionary Definition:
Interactive:
1. (of two people or things) influencing each other.
2. (of a computer program or system) interacting with a human user, often in a conversational way, to obtain data or commands and to give immediate results or updated information

Assembled a mood board regarding to the interactive installations in the Lux festival. I collected a few photographs of the Lux festival and how the audience were interacting with the artwork. It was interesting to see the different ways of interaction: screaming, touching, going through the installations and some just observe/admire. Although some installations didn't need any interaction to start functioning, it was interesting to see that people tried to interact with them anyways. This could be part of the experience that we can try show on our website. Maybe cropping images to show just the interaction or the audience's reaction to spike their interest.

Any ideas guys?

Mood board - Sarah

Mood board on allocated word

Made a mood board based on discovering places in Lux. Brainstormed words and imagery I thought would relate to the word discovery. It is interesting how they use light for their way finding. It would be cool if we could use the types of patterns or shapes like in their light displays in our website.

Still thinking about colours though. They do have a lot of dark colours in combination with bright so maybe we could pick a few colours and incorporate those into our website design.

Colour Testing

I also tried out some initial colour trial combinations. Still thinking they aren't quite working yet though. So anyone else have any ideas?

Styles/Textures

Also, I started thinking about design techniques, textures and styles that could be utilized in the website. Just some ways to start thinking.

Organizing site content

Looked into how the content was managed on the site and tried reorganizing the content to make it easier to navigate and also give all the information needed.
